Code for sustainable homes

Introduced in 2007, the Code for Sustainable Homes is a single national standard for assessing the sustainable qualities of newly constructed homes and is used by many planning authorities to specify the required sustainable aspects of new developments. It is also used by designers and builders as a guide to a sustainable development and by home buyers to assist in their choice of a new home.

The Code evaluates environmental performance in a two stage process (design and post-construction) using objective criteria and verification. The result of the Code assessment is recorded on a certificate assigned to each dwelling. In addition to the design and post-construction assessment we offer a pre-design stage assessment to evaluate your project with a view of providing recommendations to help you achieve the level of the code required, which can be included in your initial planning application.

Part of the requirements of the Code is for all new homes to be provided with a Home User Guide. As a section of the services offered, we can assist you in preparing your Home User Guides.

We can meet you at the early stages of your project to discuss your options and how you should go about achieving the target code level.
